The weekend started off strong for Lamb, setting the fastest time in early practice and qualifying second for the standing start alongside polesitter Tristan Herbert. Lamb was able to draw from his previous Grand Am and MX-5 Cup experience at Laguna Seca to take the early lead with Winchester in tow. The teammates worked together to ease away from the field while conserving tires for the inevitable end-of-race showdown.
On the final caution, Altenburg was able to close up the gap and a three-way battle ensued. Altenburg got by Winchester and set his sights on Lamb, who was being held up by lapped traffic. The duo navigated traffic in the closing laps, with Lamb able to defend the charge by Altenburg at the checkers, with Winchester finishing third.
Lamb now leads the Driver's Championship by 12 points over Michael Cooper, and Honda leads the Manufacturer's Championship by 13 points over Mazda.
Todd Lamb: "What a great weekend and another amazing job by Compass360. The NKN/SafeRacer Honda had a perfect balance throughout the race. We worked hard to get the setup just right, including a switch to StopTech brakes, because we knew corner speed and late braking would be our only shot to stay in front of the turbo cars. We were hoping to gain some points in the championship so coming away with the points lead is a great accomplishment."
The Touring Cars head to Mosport in Ontario, Canada on June 22-24 for Rounds 7-9, running 3 races in conjunction with TCB (B-Spec) cars.
The Laguna Seca race will air on NBC Sports on Sunday May 27 at 11pm. All races are available to view online anytime at www.world-challengetv.com.
