TruSpeed will field four cars for this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge race, for team regulars Lawson Aschenbach (#1 PrivacyStar / Entrust Porsche), Jeff Courtney (#99 Kenda Tires Porsche), Tomy Drissi (#47 Ice Age: Continental Drift Porsche) and Justin Marks (#46 GoPro / MMX Porsche). Aschenbach returns to the team after missing the last round at Miller Motorsports Park due to a scheduling conflict, but faces a tough race due to another scheduling problem.
Aschenbach will pull double duty this weekend, testing with TruSpeed Wednesday in California, then flying to New Jersey Motorsports Park to practice Thursday in his Grand-Am Chevrolet Camaro, which will force him to miss all of Thursday's track time in World Challenge. Lawson will fly back to California late Thursday in order to take the green flag for Friday’s World Challenge race. After taking on the uphill battle of starting the race from the rear of the grid - which by rule he must do after missing qualifying - he will get back on a plane to fly East again for Saturday’s race in New Jersey. Aschenbach currently sits third in the driver’s championship, but his championship chase will be made more difficult by the mandated start from the back of the grid.
Team Manager Tyler Tadevic said, “We all love getting to race at Laguna, and this racetrack has proved to be a good one for us. We all get to drive here together rather than fly which allows the team to spend some stress-free time together, but of course as soon as we get the awnings set up on our trailers, we get very busy. We’re hoping to build on the success we had in 2011 in the IMSA GT3 Cup Series and are aiming for the podium in both races. We’re starting the World Challenge race on the back foot with Lawson having to miss qualifying, but Jeff, Justin and Tomy are all fully capable of strong results here. We’re excited to get out there and race! We’re growing into a new partnership with Eibach this weekend, and that’s a partnership that affects all of our cars.
