Fuentes in championship chase while Mancinelli seeks victory
Ft. Lauderdale, Miami – One of the highlight events of the Pirelli World Challenge season is this weekend’s Grand Prix of Long Beach. As North America’s premiere street racing event, a victory at the Grand Prix of Long Beach is a prize highly sought after by the drivers in World Challenge.
While not yet a race winner at Long Beach, Daniel Mancinelli is a race winner in World Challenge and would like to add to his tally this weekend at the Long Beach circuit. Making his first start of the season in the No. 31 TR3 Racing Ferrari 488 GT3, Mancinelli enters the weekend full of confidence after the car’s strong performance at the Circuit of The Americas where, driven by Jeff Segal and Wei Lu, it took a Sprint-X class victory.
Mancinelli finished in fourth position in last year’s World Challenge race at the Grand Prix of Long Beach.
“I’m very excited for the race this weekend,” said Mancinelli. “I raced in Long Beach last year, and I really liked the circuit. It was very fun to race on such a historical circuit, and our Ferrari showed it had a great performance at the last race in Austin. I’m very confident that we are going to have a great weekend and can’t wait to get in the Ferrari and have another great performance.”
In the World Challenge GT-A class, Martin Fuentes arrives at Long Beach in a battle for the championship lead after the first two race weekends of the season. After sweeping the opening races at Sprint GT races at St. Petersberg and the Sprint-X Am/Am races at Circuit of The Americas, Fuentes leads the Sprint GT-A championship and is second in the Overall GT-A championship.
Fuentes is also a previous class winner at Long Beach, taking the 2016 GT-A win in a Ferrari.
“I’m very exited to be heading to Long Beach after two great weekends with the team,” said Fuentes. “Long Beach is one of the most complicated races and a very bumpy track – similar to St. Petersburg. I really love street courses so I’m looking forward to getting back in the car at one of the most iconic races of the year. And, I’m hoping we keep that good streak that we’ve had so far this season. I’m sure we are going to be competitive and the Ferrari 488 GT3 has been showing that it’s a very good car. I’m looking forward to some exciting moments and some exciting races this weekend.”
The Pirelli World Challenge race from the Grand Prix of Long Beach will be streamed live on Sunday, April 15 beginning at 12:50 PM ET. The race will be broadcast on CBS Sports on Sunday, April 22 at 3:00 PM ET.
