Mills Racing Fighting for the SprintX Championship at PWC Season Finale

Michael Mills and John Edwards will be teaming up for this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge SprintX races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The pairing is championship focused, and looking to bring home the title while previous BMW of North America factory driver, Kuno Wittmer, is across the pond.

Going in to the double race weekend, Mills Racing leads the SprintX championship by 38 points over M1 GT Racing while Michael leads the Sportsman Drivers Championship by 34 points over David Ostella.

“There’s a lot at stake at this last race of this season, with multiple Sprint X titles on the line. BMW of North America is committed to supporting all its customer teams,” BMW of North America, Motorsports Manager, Victor Leleu said. “This weekend our Sprint X focus is on Mills Racing, with both drivers and engineering support.”

“Our goal is to focus on the races and enjoy wrapping up a season of firsts,” Michael Mills said. “As a family team, we are in a dream situation, and we can’t thank Victor, BMW Motorsports, and their team enough for their support toward this championship effort.”

While the team is excited to work with John Edwards, they are also excited for the possibilities that Kuno’s future holds.

“Kuno’s European commitments with BMW Motorsport that same weekend preclude him from being here but we’re happy to bring in John Edwards to help Michael Mills seal the deal,”Leleu continued.

“John is an impressive young man, and I’m looking forward to racing with him this weekend,” Michael said. “We both had the opportunity to spend the day at GPX Driver Development Lab working together on the simulator to prepare for this weekend. With the limited time we had to prepare for this weekend after the driver change, it was very beneficial.”

“I’m excited to be joining Michael and Mills Racing for the finale of the SprintX championship,” John Edwards, BMW of North America factory driver, said. “The pressure is high as Michael is leading the championship so my only target is to help him win that.”

This race weekend will be a throwback for Edwards as he was a part of the Z4 win last year in the GTLM class.

“I’m feeling nostalgic about getting back in a Z4 at Mazda Raceway,” Edwards continued. “I also have some good memories of winning 2 championships at Mazda Raceway in 2008 and 2009, so the bar is set high and I’m hoping to celebrate another win with Mills Racing on Sunday.”
