BOWMANVILLE, ONT, Canada – Coming off a dynamic 2017 season debut in which the team grabbed the pole and had two second-place finishes, JCR Motorsports is looking to make things twice as nice at the Victoria Day Speedfest, May 19-21, at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park outside of Toronto.
That’s because JCR is adding a second car as Canadian Fred Roberts joins Jeff Courtney to run in the GTS class of the Pirelli World Challenge Series for this race and select others in the 2017 season. Courtney will be driving the #99 Kenda/RecStuff.com/JCR Motorsports Maserati GT4, while Roberts will be in the #89 RPM Canada/Enercare Maserati GT4. Courtney was behind the wheel for the team’s first event, in Virginia the end of April, and he proved that JCR Motorsports is a threat to win whenever it takes the track.
“We are really excited to have Fred coming on board,” Courtney exclaimed. “He has had only one day of testing in this car so we need to help get him up to speed as quickly as possible.
“As a team, we were very happy but not surprised with the performance of our Maserati at VIR as we spent a lot of time in the off-season making our cars competitive. We are really looking forward to going to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park because it’s the best fit for our Maseratis on the 2017 World Challenge schedule. This is one of my favorite tracks; it’s very fast.
“We do face an additional challenge, and that is a rules adjustment for us that has added weight and ride height after our last race. We’re obviously disappointed in the ruling but we’re determined to make this another successful weekend, in particular at Fred’s home track in front of Canadian fans.”
Roberts is excited to be back behind the wheel of a race car and of course the fact that it’s coming here is an additional bonus.
“After being away from racing for a while, I could not be happier to be coming back, especially at my home track with its great history,” Roberts said. “Getting me up to pace will be our focus and clearly, Jeff can help me with that coming off his outstanding performance at VIR.”
Courtney’s World Challenge effort is propelled by Kenda Tires along with RecStuff.com, the authority in trailer parts, an online retailer that specializes in trailer tires and wheels along with other components for trailers.
The #89 car has support from RPM Canada and Enercare, one of Canada’s largest home and commercial services and energy solutions companies.
