After a mixed season-opener at Virginia International Raceway, BERG Racing looks forward to home-track venues –

Webster, NY – After enduring a difficult season-opener at Virginia International Raceway, BERG Racing prepares for the busiest month on its racing calendar. With back-to-back races at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) and Lime Rock Park, the pair of Audi RS 3 LMS USA Clubsports and the REDCOM Laboratories Mazda MX-5 have been readied for the home-race stretch of the Pirelli World Challenge Championships season.

“We endured an unlucky season-opener at VIR,” remarked John Weisberg, owner/driver of BERG Racing. “We sustained damage to all three cars, and had a technical problem on the #5 REDCOM MX-5 both Saturday and Sunday, but we’ll bounce back at two of our favorite home tracks, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Lime Rock.”

As tracks that typically suit handling and downforce, Weisberg expects all three cars to be in the mix at both events.

“In the past with the MX-5 program, we’ve run pretty well at CTMP, and almost won the TC race at Lime Rock last year,” added Weisberg. “We’re excited to see how the Quaife sequential gearbox adds speed to the wide-open nature of CTMP. As far as our Audi RS 3 LMS program is concerned, we can’t wait to debut these cars at CTMP, a track requiring balance and power, and Lime Rock, requiring agility and downforce.”

JT Coupal, driver of the #009 Micro Precision Components Audi RS 3 LMS feels the combination of a new car and new tracks should make for an exciting month of Pirelli World Challenge racing.

“VIR was our first outing with the Audi RS 3 LMS,” said Coupal. “We now have a much better understanding of the car. The BERG Racing crew has worked really hard on fine-tuning the car. With the car’s power and handling, we should be in for a treat at CTMP and Lime Rock!”

Despite his championship-winning resume, the 16-year-old Junior from Rochester, New York has never raced at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, but eagerly awaits the outing.

“From what I can tell, CTMP requires a car with good power, but great downforce and balance,” said Coupal. “Downforce is something we have plenty of in the RS 3 LMS, so John Allen and I should be able to capitalize on our strengths this weekend!”

John Allen returns to the John Allen Racing #007 Audi RS 3 LMS, eager to put the VIR debut race behind him.

“We had a difficult race at VIR,” said Allen. “The Audi RS 3 LMS proved that it’s a force to be reckoned with and fit nicely in the TC class. JT had a wonderful debut with two top-ten finishes – he’s getting the recognition he deserves. Unfortunately, John Weisberg in the MX-5 didn’t have similar luck, with some technical issues in both races.”

Allen too looks forward to new tracks in the Northeast.

“I’m very much looking forward to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Lime Rock Park – both new tracks for me, but venues that have been on my list since I started racing a few years ago,” said Allen. “I’m still getting up to speed learning front-wheel-drive, and these upcoming tracks are great venues to continue my progress.”

Considering the northeastern races, title partner REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. always values the exposure created by Pirelli World Challenge so close to home.

“We love meeting a challenge at REDCOM and BERG Racing,” said Dinah Weisberg, President of REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. “It brings out the very best performance in our teams. I’m looking forward to watching the trio of BERG Racing REDCOM machines burn up the track this weekend!”
