Clemson University Student Set to Race for VIR Weekend on April 28-30

RALEIGH, N.C. – 2016 Pirelli World Challenge GT Cup Champion Alec Udell will represent the series, North America’s premier sprint format GT Production-based racing series, and VIRginia International Raceway at the North Carolina International Auto Expo this Saturday, February 18.

The Clemson University junior will sign autographs in the VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) booth from 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds’ Convention Center.

The Woodlands, Texas-resident who is currently studying engineering at Clemson, will join the Pirelli World Challenge competitors for the series’ premier division at VIR, April 28-30.

The April 28-30 racing weekend at the popular Alton, Virginia-area track will be the season-opener for the PWC’s SprintX Championship. The two, 60-minute, multi-driver format races feature a Pro-Am style driver combination. Race One will take place on Saturday, April 29, with Race Two on Sunday, April 30.

About Alec Udell
Alec Udell is a junior studying engineering at Clemson University. The 21-year-old from The Woodlands, Texas began his racing career in karting at age five. He went on to win the Rotax National Points Championship in 2008 and represented his country as part of Team USA in Egypt in the World Championships in 2009. By 2011, he made history by becoming, at the time, the Pirelli World Challenge’s youngest ever competitor at age 15. He has 15 career Pirelli World Challenge GT Cup class wins entering the season and is the 2016 PWC GT Cup Champion.


Porsche Racer Set to Race at VIR Weekend on April 28-30

RICHMOND, Va. – Two-time Pirelli World Challenge SprintX race winner Preston Calvert will make an appearance for North America’s premier sprint format GT Production-based racing series and VIRginia International Raceway at the Virginia Motor Trend International Auto Show this Saturday, February 18.

Calvert, who won exciting SprintX events last year in the sports car tour, will sign autographs in the VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) booth from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

The Potomac, Md., racer drives a high-speed Porsche 911 GT3 R sports car throughout North America and will join the Pirelli World Challenge competitors for the series’ premier division, SprintX, at VIR, April 28-30.

About Preston Calvert
Dr. Calvert is a neurologist with a medical degree from Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University when he isn’t behind the wheel of his sports car. Calvert started his racing career later than most but has driven in a variety of road racing series and co-drove with Michael Lewis last year in the new Pirelli World Challenge SprintX series. Calvert and Lewis scored victories last year at Utah Motorsports Campus near Salt Lake City. Calvert also recorded podium (top three) finish last year in the GT Cup division.
