GTS Am Driver shows Utah track knowledge over Courtney, Baptista & Barkey
GRANTSVILLE, Utah – Local driving star Drew Staveley of Salt Lake City paced the GTS Practice 1 round Friday at Utah Motorsports Campus with a time of one minute, 59.403 seconds (91.89 miles per hour) in his No. 12 Ian Lacy Racing Ginetta G55 sports car as part of the Security National Mortgage Supercar Grand Prix of Utah, GTS Round 13 of the Pirelli World Challenge.
Staveley, a veteran of the Utah Motorsports Park but racing the GTS Am division, topped the likes of Jeff Courtney, Rodrigo Baptista, Martin and Nate Stacy. Courtney drove his No. 99 RecStuff.com/KENDA Maserati GT4 to a 1:59.617 (91.73 m.p.h.) as Staveley and Courtney were the only GTS drivers to break the two-minute barrier around the 3.048-mile, 14-turn UMC permanent road circuit.
Baptista, a double winner this year at Lime Rock Park, piloted his No. 3 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR to a 2:00.132 (91.33 m.p.h.) followed by Barkey’s 2:00.336 (91.18 m.p.h.) in the No. 80 Mantella Autosports KTM X-bow GT4 and Stacy’s 2:00.534 (91.03 m.p.h.) in the No. 14 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR.
Second in the GTS Am division was Mark Klenin in the No. 62 KPR/Tender Belly McLaren 570S GT at 2:01.523 (90.29 m.p.h.)
The next GTS practice at Utah Friday is scheduled for 1:50 p.m. MDT.
